Harald Loeffler, Partner in the Manchester office of international law firm DAC Beachcroft, has been named Austrian Honorary Consul for the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber. As a result, DAC Beachcroft’s Manchester office will now serve as the Austrian Consulate.

Harald, an Austrian citizen who moved to the UK in 1999, was formally appointed by Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, in April 2016 and the official opening of the Consulate took place yesterday (31 May) at DAC Beachcroft’s Manchester city centre offices.

The event was attended by the Austrian Ambassador, His Excellency Martin Eichtinger, and senior representatives of the City of Manchester – including new Lord Mayor, Councillor Carl Austin-Behan, and Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, Sue Murphy – as well as an array of Austrian businesses and local companies.

Harald heads up DAC Beachcroft’s German Desk, which supports German, Austrian and Swiss companies operating in jurisdictions in which DAC Beachcroft has a presence. In his new role as Honorary Consul, he will support Austrian citizens living in the North of the UK with a particular focus on strengthening the political, economic and personal connections between the UK and Austria.

Harald explained: “It is an honour to have been appointed as Honorary Consul for Austria, where I was born. Austria is such a world-class destination for businesses and holidays and it surprises me time and again just how many fantastic companies – many of them world leaders in their fields – come from this small country. I have been lucky enough to work with many of them over the years and I now look forward to fostering the relationship between the UK and Austria even further in my new role.”

Our new Honorary Consulate in Manchester will be an important hub for Austrian citizens, the Austrian business community and friends of Austria in the Northern Powerhouse.”

Ian McConkey, Regional Senior Partner for DAC Beachcroft in Manchester, said: “It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the Consulate at our own offices here in the city. DAC Beachcroft is proud to support Harald in his new role, which further illustrates how the firm is well-placed to service international clients from its network of UK offices.”
