What is German in the North West?
First of all, we would like to thank all of our entrants and their teachers for their hard work! It was a difficult job to judge as competition was tough and the standard very high. But in the end we settled on the following winners of our 2015 competition:
First Prize: Zoe Croft and Aisha Djalo (Blue Coat School Oldham) with an enthusiastic and linguistically ambitious postcard.
Second Prize: Stephanie Voong (Blue Coat School Oldham) with an accurate and creative postcard.
Honourable mention: Matthew Riddel (Blue Coat School Oldham) for inventive content and illustrations.
First Prize: Rachel Lewis and Kathleen Bowman from All Hallows School Penwortham with a story written from the perspective of a German student visiting England during the centenary of the First World War.
(St Augustine’s RC High School) with a highly creative and colourful board game.
Years 12-13 (Cardinal Newman)
First Prize: Francesca Martin on the Beatles in Hamburg
Second Prize: Jan-Kay Cheung on scientists and musicians in Manchester
Heather Alder on Marxism and Manchester
Mary Curwen on the Hobbit
Isabel Higginson on unemployment
Emma Gerraty on various NW connections (nicely illustrated)
Winners of first and second prizes will receive book tokens at the prize giving ceremony. Honourable mentions will receive a ‘goody pack’ courtesy of the Goethe Institut. All of the above will have their work displayed at the Central Library in Manchester during the launch of the North West German Network on 10th March. We look forward to congratulating our winners in Manchester soon!
We will also be posting the competition entries on the website soon!
